Autumn 2019 seems to be the season for grid slots and cluster pays. First Play n Go with their Honey Rush and Wild Frames games, then Quickspin with Golden Glyph. And now here we are with Blueprint Gaming’s first Cluster Pays game, Dragonfall. Recently Blueprint have been focusing on the Megaways™ format, with multiple releases on license from Big Time Gaming. Here, they stick with high risk slots play with an extremely high variance, but map the maths to the cluster pays format with interesting results.

SYMBOLS AND GRAPHICS
Dragonfall has a Dungeons and Dragons feel to it, with the 8×8 grid set against a backdrop of what looks like a dragon’s lair, filled with gold trinkets, coins and jewelry. The slot uses what Blueprint call the Megadrop mechanic – symobls drop onto a blank grid with the objective of landing 5 or more in a cluster. When this happens, cluster symbols are removed and replaced with different ones for the chance to create further clusters. This way, multiple wins can be awarded from each drop.
The symobls themselves are made up of different colored dragon’s eggs, with a Dragon’s Eye Wild also appearing. This is a critical part of the game and unlocks the main features as well as helping to form winning clusters.
GAMEPLAY AND FEATURES
Colossal Symbols
At random after ANY non-winning spin a colossal symbol may be dropped onto the reels. When this happens all symbols covered by the colossus transform into identical ones to create a cluster.
Dragon’s Eye Wild and Multiplier
Acts as a standard wild BUT after a win cluster is formed it remains on the grid and moves one place, creating opportunities for more wild wins. Each time it moves it increases its multiplier value by 1x (starting from 0). Where more than one multiplier wild appers in a cluster then the multipliers are combined.
This continues until the win sequence ends with no more clusters. Just as there is no limit to the number of wins in a sequence, there is no limit to how high the multiplier can go.
Free Spins or ‘Drops’
Dragon’s Eye Wilds also act as scatters with three or more releasing 6 drops.
During this bonus round things get really interesting as Wilds on the grid when the round was triggered remain there, and any new ones that land also remain even after a win sequence ends. This creates opportunity to load up the grid with many multiplier wilds that all roam and combine for big cluster wins.
OUR VERDICT
Dragonfall is without question one for the hardcore out there. If you’re looking for some relaxing, casual slot play, look elsewhere, as this one will not be kind. Expect it to hold back and hold back for long periods until it unleashes a big windfall in a frenzied whirl of free spins, multipliers and wilds. It’s what high risk gamers love, and Bluerpint have absolutely nailed it here.
